Ladies Pistol League
SHOOT SEASON
Weekly - May thru September

HANDGUNS
.22 handguns are primarily used, making it less-expensive for the approximately 50 rounds of ammunition used. Women who wish to shoot higher caliber handguns are welcome to do so. Ear and eye protection is required.
MEMBERSHIP
Ladies Pistol League participants must be at least 18 years of age and to fill out a registration form at the beginning of the season. Member meetings are held April, July and Oct. Fees are collected at weekly shoots if 3 or more members are present. They are $5 for Manistee Muzzle Loading Club members and $6 for non-members. Fees are used for targets, league- sponsored events and range projects.
SKILLS & SAFETY
The strong foundation of knowledge and skill acquired during the NRA pistol courses are applied on the shooting range. Shooters advance at their own pace, improving and maintaining their skills in a safe, non-competitive atmosphere. They shoot from a number of positions at distances varying from 7 feet to 25 yards. Shooting positions range from bench-rest, two-handed standing, one-handed standing, off-hand, personal protection (kneeling behind the bench), and some are just to have a good challenge.
HISTORY
The group began in 1996 for ladies who desire to improve and maintain their shooting skills and increase their proficiency in the use of their firearms by practicing on a regular basis. The leading instructor of the NRA classes was John Rozga. As an NRA-licensed pistol instructor, he became the range officer. Six ladies began to meet on a weekly basis to develop their skills. The numbers have grown to as many as 15-20 members in past years and became known as the Manistee Ladies Pistol League.
